Res Life Scholarships

Home About Us Res Life Scholarships

We offer five scholarships that provide financial assistance to University of Maryland students.

Three scholarships support current student staff in the department and two honor the memory of exemplary Resident Life staff members, Joseph M. Mitchell (1963-2005) and Michelle Humanick (1966-2010).

Current Scholarships

Joseph M. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship

The Joseph M. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Award was established in recognition of Joe's compassion for the less fortunate members of our society and in honor of his ability to befriend, guide and mentor individuals whose ability to succeed as students at our institution was challenged by some personal or family circumstance.

Lee Spann, Jr. Resident Assistant Scholarship

In memory of her husband, Willis Lee Spann, Jr., Sydney, Carson, and Carolyn Spann wished to establish an endowed fund to provide need-based scholarships to students working as Resident Assistants at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Michelle Humanick Scholarship

The Michelle Humanick Scholarship was established by Michelle’s family and friends to honor her memory and to provide need-based scholarship support to University of Maryland students. Preference will be given to students who are returning to school after time away and who exemplify Michelle’s spirit and the joy that she brought to the lives of others.

The Michelle Humanick Scholarship has been a Godsend for my family and me this semester. Being a fulltime student and mother is extremely difficult. I have the stresses of excelling in school and keeping up with my school work and the pressures of parenthood and running a household. Now that I have received this scholarship it reduces outside burdens, inspires school achievement and solidifies my goal of graduating with a double degree in Kinesiology and Public Health Science.

Resident Assistant (RA) Scholarship Fund

The Resident Assistant (RA) Scholarship Fund provides support for current undergraduate RAs in this demanding leadership role on campus that positively impacts the experience of so many Terps living in campus housing. Support the RA Scholarship and invest with us in the future of these outstanding campus leaders.

Student Employee Scholarship Fund

The Student Employee Scholarship Fund was created to support current hourly student employees. This scholarship provides an opportunity for alumni and friends to support student-staff who are a vital part of Resident Life. This scholarship benefits student employees with financial needs, who are already working to finance their education.
